Frequently asked questions

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. People come to therapy for many different reasons, including anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, low mood, loss, life transitions, self-development, or simply wanting a space to better understand themselves.

What can I expect from the first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We will explore what has brought you to therapy, discuss your hopes for counselling, and talk about any questions or concerns you may have. There is no pressure to share everything straight away.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. I offer a free initial consultation, giving us the opportunity to discuss what is bringing you to therapy and to see whether working together feels like the right fit.

How long does counselling last?

There is no set number of sessions. Some people benefit from short-term therapy focused on a specific issue, while others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper patterns and experiences. We can discuss what feels right for you.

How often will we meet?

Most clients attend weekly sessions, as this provides consistency and momentum. However, we can discuss arrangements based on your individual circumstances and needs.

Do you offer online and telephone counselling?

Yes. I offer face to face counselling in Didsbury, Manchester, as well as online and telephone sessions, allowing you to choose the format that feels most comfortable and convenient for you.

Is counselling confidential?

Confidentiality is a fundamental part of therapy. Everything discussed in sessions remains confidential, with a few legal and ethical exceptions which will be explained during our initial meeting.

What issues can counselling help with?

I work with a wide range of presenting issues, including:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Childhood trauma
  • Emotional regulation
  • Low self-esteem
  • Body image concerns
  • Eating difficulties
  • Family issues
  • Work-related stress
  • Life transitions
  • Loss and bereavement
  • Sexuality and sexual concerns
  • Phobias
  • Personal development and self-understanding

What if I feel nervous about starting therapy?

Feeling nervous is completely normal. Taking the first step can often feel like the hardest part. My aim is to provide a welcoming, down-to-earth space where you can talk openly at your own pace.

How much do sessions cost?

Individual counselling sessions are £55 per session and last 50 minutes. Please get in touch for current availability and fees.

What if I’ve never had counselling before?

Many of the people I work with are attending therapy for the first time. You don’t need to know what to say or have everything figured out before you begin. We can start wherever feels comfortable for you.

How sure are you that you can help me with my problems?

No ethical therapist can guarantee a specific outcome, as every person, situation and therapeutic journey is unique.
What I can say is that, through years of experience working with a wide range of individuals and presenting issues, I have seen the powerful impact that therapy can have when there is commitment, trust and a strong therapeutic relationship.

My work is not simply focused on managing symptoms. I am interested in understanding the deeper roots of difficulties, exploring the patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and helping you develop greater clarity and self-understanding.

Together, we can begin to untangle the complex emotional experiences that have shaped your life and work towards meaningful, lasting change.

While I cannot promise a particular outcome, I am confident that with the right therapeutic fit, we can make sense of what is happening, uncover new perspectives, and help you move closer towards the life you want to live.
